Stress of the Holiday Season: Air Freight

Noticing a bull-trend in the airfreight rates do not come as a big surprise during the Holiday Season. However, in November 2020, this chart shot-up with an increasing pace. Reason? Besides the shopping promotions, an additional reason for this boost was lack of Air Cargo capacity caused by fewer passenger aircraft services.
As compared to the first few months of 2020, some carriers have made effort and managed to increase the capacity to carry additional cargo in passenger aircrafts. With the existing crunch on capacity due to holiday season, January will bring along a new challenge with circulation of vaccines. How the industry will cope with that pressure will be interesting to see!
